Bavarian Curling

Bavarian Curling, also known as Ice Stock sport, is Southern Germany’s answer to long and cold winter evenings. Looking somewhat similar to the standard curling we’re already used to, Bavarian Curling dates as far back as 16th century as seen on this Peter Bruegel painting from 1565.

Fast forward a few hundred years and this is me giving Bavarian Curling a shot.

Nevermind the snowman look and my creepy smile, the game is actually pretty fun. Especially when holding a cup of warm mulled wine in the sub zero weather. It was also pretty fun observing others playing the game. Where one team was just throwing for the fun of it, the other wanted to block, get closer to the mark, and actually thought up strategies to win by all means!
