The First Gastro Miasto of 2026 in Wrocław

Today, Ania and I went to the first Gastro Miasto event of the year in Wrocław. If you’ve never heard of it before, Gastro Miasto is one of those events that instantly makes the city feel alive again after the long winter months. Multiple times throughout the summer, a huge open-air food court appears in the city, bringing together restaurants, bars, coffee spots, bakeries, and food trucks.

And judging by the crowds this weekend, people had clearly been waiting for it.

Before we even arrived, we already had a game plan. We spent some time scrolling through Instagram posts of local restaurants that announced they’d be attending and foodies alike that had posted their recommendations. A few places immediately stood out, especially a taco spot from Katowice that looked too good to skip. By the time we got there, we already knew exactly what we wanted to eat.

There were plenty of returning favorites, but also a surprising number of new places that I don’t remember seeing before. That’s honestly one of the reasons I enjoy events like this so much. Even living in Wrocław, there are still so many restaurants you either never hear about or simply never get around to visiting. Gastro Miasto compresses the entire local food scene into one space for an afternoon. Well, not the entire local scene, but you get the point.

And we actually ended up eating exactly what we planned to eat.

Three tacos, one burrito, and pastrami.

The pastrami deserves its own paragraph because somehow, every single year, it remains one of the best things there. We tell ourselves we should try more new things, but then we see the pastrami stand again and immediately give up on that idea. It’s become part of the tradition at this point.

The tacos from Katowice absolutely lived up to expectations too. Great flavor, fresh ingredients, and exactly the kind of street food you want to eat while standing outside on a warm afternoon surrounded by noise, music, and hundreds of conversations blending together in the background.

The only real downside, and honestly my only complaint about the entire event, was the crowd management.

Just like last year, certain sections became extremely congested, creating bottlenecks that made it genuinely difficult to move around. At times, walking through the middle areas felt less like a food festival and more like trying to leave a stadium after a concert.

What makes it a little frustrating is that these aren’t new problems. The organizers have already hosted multiple editions of Gastro Miasto over the years, which means they probably already know where the biggest traffic issues happen. It feels like the layout could be redesigned a bit better to create smoother movement between sections, especially around the most popular food stands.

Because aside from that, the atmosphere itself was fantastic.

People sitting together at long tables. Drinks everywhere. Dogs lying under benches. Music playing in the background. The smell of grilled meat, fresh bread, spices, and coffee floating through the air depending on where you happened to be standing. It had that very specific summer-city energy that only appears during events like this. Summer-city energy, even though the weather thus far in Wrocław has been absolutely terrible with highs in the 16C (60F) today.

Despite the crowds, it was still a great afternoon in Wrocław, and knowing there are still multiple Gastro Miasto events left this summer, I’m pretty sure we’ll be back again soon.

There’s still plenty of Gastro Miasto left this year, with one event scheduled each month over the next four months: June 19–21, July 10–12, August 21–23, and September 11–13.

Afterwards, we wandered along the river on our way back to the parking lot. At one point, a guy on a motorcycle passed by and looked directly at me at the perfect moment; one of those small accidental shots that somehow captures the atmosphere of the entire afternoon.
