I was never cool enough to be in a chess club. It could be because till this day I don’t know how to play, or that with my unpronounceable name and a foreign accent I had plenty of reasons to get picked on in high school and didn’t need the chess club to do me any favors.
But I stumbled along the Polonia Wrocław chess club and the trophies in the window make chess look pretty cool, I must admit.
This photo reminds me of a scene from the movie Rounders where you get to play Teddy KGB while a thug stands over you waiting for that one wrong move. But a trophy isn’t everything, and I will leave you with this quote by Demetri Martin to prove it:
“I used to play sports. Then I realized you can buy trophies. Now I’m good at everything.”
